Relocation Depression is a Real Thing

These warning signs may be more than the post-move doldrums. It is possible that you've got something referred to as "relocation depression". Relocation depression is indeed a thing--the beginning is after pretty much all the craziness of the move disperses--and should be considered seriously and diagnosed in case you cannot shake it on your own.
Indicators to Watch For
These are generally some of the warning signs to look for, the appearance of some of these over a couple of week span signifies you need to get some professional help.
You Are Unable To Get Out of Bed
And once you do, you may be fatigued and really do not have the strength to get through your day. Insomnia can be another characteristic of depression; you're exhausted constantly, however you cannot get to sleep. Or it is possible to sleep--a dozen hours at a time and you are still worn out.
Absence of Interest in Anything
In your past house or community, you had your schedule and your stuff--work, pals, hobbies--that filled your weeks. How to Combat Relocation Depression
There are some things you can do to remove the fog, so try these and pay attention to if you feel better.
Get Some Exercise--Active individuals feel better, so get out and just walk around the block several times each day. In case you have a dog this can be a built-in excuse to get out. Expand that outside time every day.
Decrease or Get rid of Alcohol--This is a depressant, therefore it is wise to stay away from it until you are feeling better.
Talk with People--Take a class or join a newcomers group. Volunteer--extra hands and skills are frequently welcome. Just one or two new acquaintances makes a big difference.
Try out Something New--Go to museums, coffee shops, cinema, restaurants--explore your new town and get to know it. Keeping occupied is like exercise--it keeps the adrenaline moving along and you will have more energy.
In case these solutions do not help, look for a counselor. Relocation depression isn't a joke, and not dealt with, will get out of hand into something even worse. You understand yourself better than anyone, and when things aren't quite right, pay attention to your body and mind. Moving to Houston is considered one of life's most traumatic events, nevertheless it does not have to become a cause for unhappiness or depression.
