Similar to the change of address policies, the majority of states have a set amount of time by which you must exchange your old license for a new one, so make sure that you confirm with your new state's DMV website to fully grasp the time period in which getting a new license will be required.
Some states mandate an in-person visit to the DMV, others let you to take care of the complete process online. Taking care of this task pre-move will help with the transition and free up important settling-in time in your new state of residence—especially during a pandemic, when threats of virus transmission complicate even the most basic matters.
In one way, an interstate move is similar to a road trip and a move all together into one. Not only are you packing up all your earthly possessions for transport, but you're in addition preparing to spend at likely a day or two road-tripping to reach your new place.
